Forge and Flirt

Run a small workshop where each gift you craft is made for one suitor, and how well you make it steers how that romance unfolds.

62% of Dating Sim Crafting games found an audience, yet few came out lately. 8 of 13 judged games reached 1,000 reviews, and 12 came out in the last three years.

What it feels like

You feel like a craftsperson whose handiwork says what words cannot, and every finished piece lands with someone you care about.

The core loop

  • Chat: Talk with a suitor to learn their tastes, moods and what they need right now.
  • Gather: Collect materials around town that match the gift you have in mind.
  • Craft: Shape a custom gift at the bench, choosing materials and details that fit the person.
  • Gift: Hand it over, watch the reaction, and see the romance branch based on the quality and fit.

One sitting

One sitting covers a few in-game days: a couple of conversations, one or two crafted gifts, and a scene that follows. Days are long enough to relax in, and you can stop at any save point.

What sets it apart

  • Gifts are made by hand for each person, so crafting is the romance itself instead of a side chore next to it.
  • There is no tournament clock, which answers the wish for more time with characters that Potionomics players raise.
  • The days are loose and the story has a clear ending, plus a free play mode from the start so nothing gets locked away.

The first playable

One suitor, one workbench and a handful of materials. Craft three different gifts and see three different reactions, to prove that making the gift is fun and matters.

Scope

  • One suitor with a few dialogue branches
  • One crafting bench with a small set of materials
  • Gift quality and fit scoring
  • A single small town screen
  • Four to six suitors with their own storylines
  • A full set of materials and recipes
  • Save anywhere and a clear story ending
  • Free play mode after the story

Art

Flat, hand-painted 2D portraits with simple tile-based town backgrounds, and a warm palette. A large crafted gift next to a suitor's face makes a clear capsule.

Risks

  • Releasing unfinished, with missing story or quests marked as work in progress, drew harsh reviews for a big hit. Launch only what is complete, state clearly what the game contains, and cut characters before shipping a half-written one.
  • Tight deadlines turned players away from a well-liked game. Skip hard timers, warn before anything can be missed, and let players catch up on stories.

Price

$10 to $20: Every game in this band found an audience, and a small, finished game fits it well.
