Outback Orchard Days
Keep the cozy farming and relationships of Dinkum, but set them on a dry frontier where sharing water shapes friendships and crops.
23% of Agriculture Life Sim games found an audience, yet few came out lately. 23 of 87 judged games reached 1,000 reviews, and 47 came out in the last three years.
What it feels like
You feel like a newcomer on a harsh, sunburnt frontier who turns scarce water into a community that looks after one another.
The core loop
- Haul: Gather water from wells, bores and tanks and decide who gets how much.
- Grow: Plant hardy orchard trees and crops that suit dry ground.
- Craft: Turn harvests into preserves, tools and gifts.
- Befriend: Trade water and goods with neighbors to grow friendships and unlock village upgrades.
One sitting
One sitting is a day or two of watering, tending trees and visiting neighbors, and you can stop at any time. Players set their own pace, as in Dinkum.
What sets it apart
- Water sharing is the friendship system, so relationships come from real choices instead of only daily gifts.
- Co-op partners both own land and progress the village quests together, which answers the main complaint about Dinkum multiplayer.
- Mods are allowed and the store page says so, in contrast to the publisher worries around Dinkum.
The first playable
A small plot with a well, a few trees and crops, a water meter, and one neighbor whose mood changes with how much water you share. Add a basic two-player test of shared ownership.
Scope
- One plot with water meter
- Two crops and one orchard tree
- One neighbor
- Basic craft bench
- Seasonal weather and dry spells
- A handful of neighbors with story lines
- Online co-op with shared ownership
- Mod folder support
Art
Low-poly or simple 3D with warm red earth, big skies and bold silhouettes, which read well at capsule size. Use a limited palette and reuse props to keep the work manageable for one person.
Risks
- Dinkum has a large audience, and a close lookalike gets lost beside it. Lead every store asset with the water-sharing hook and the co-op ownership, not the general cozy farming.
- Water logistics could turn into management, which the misses lean on. Keep it to a few clear numbers and let neighbors' reactions carry the feedback.
- 3D camera and controls frustrated some Dinkum players. Ship rebindable keys and camera options from the first playable and test with new players.
Price
$10 to $20: Most games in this band found an audience more often than the cheaper ones, which suits a smaller first release, with room to move up once co-op and story are in.
