Hollow Mine Guild

Hollow Mine Guild keeps the deep skill learning and odd freedom of Project: Gorgon but shrinks the world to one huge shared cave where every tunnel permanently reshapes the map.

37% of MMORPG Sandbox games found an audience, yet few came out lately. 27 of 69 judged games reached 1,000 reviews, and 22 came out in the last three years.

What it feels like

You dig your own path into the dark and later find other players walking through the tunnel you cut.

The core loop

  • Dig: Carve tunnels through rock and uncover ore, caverns and creatures.
  • Learn: Practice mining, crafting and combat skills that level through use.
  • Craft: Turn ore into tools, supports and gear that let you dig deeper.
  • Defend: Hold or contest tunnels and chambers with your guild.

One sitting

You descend, dig toward a marked vein, and fight off whatever your tunnel opens up. You return to the guild hall to craft and train before the next dive.

What sets it apart

  • A single shared cave where tunnels persist, so one player's dig changes the route for everyone, which Project: Gorgon does not do.
  • Skills level by use and mix freely, keeping the build freedom players enjoy in Project: Gorgon.
  • Opt-in PvP in contested depths with safe upper levels, and no sudden rule changes to leveling without notice, answering players' wishes about trust and fairness.

The first playable

One small shared cave where two to four players dig, the tunnels persist after logout, and mining skill levels up with use.

Scope

  • Diggable voxel cave with saved changes
  • Mining skill that levels with use
  • One ore and one pickaxe upgrade
  • Small-server multiplayer
  • Several cave depths with distinct creatures
  • A few skill lines that mix freely
  • Guild halls and shared storage
  • Opt-in PvP in deep zones

Art

Dark stone with glowing ore and lantern light in a simple voxel or low-poly style, so bright veins stand out against the black in a capsule. Few unique assets are needed because the tunnels build the scenery.

Risks

  • Permanent tunnel changes can grow messy or be griefed. Add claim zones, limits on how much a player can dig, and slow repair of abandoned tunnels.
  • Changes to leveling or crafting can anger long-time players, as happened with Project: Gorgon. Announce systems changes early, test them in public, and avoid removing goals players have invested in.
  • A small team cannot keep up with moderation and support. Keep rules simple, use player reports with logging, and set a published response window for tickets.

Price

$20 to $40: This band had the strongest share that found an audience among the priced games, while the cheapest band had none.
