Hordebreak Greenhouse

Hordebreak Greenhouse keeps the pressure of a huge approaching horde from They Are Billions, but the base is a glass farm where every wall and crop bed also feeds survivors.

23% of Building Zombies games found an audience, yet few came out lately. 14 of 68 judged games reached 1,000 reviews, and 26 came out in the last three years.

What it feels like

You feel like a careful gardener-commander whose fragile glass colony must feed people and hold off a rising tide.

The core loop

  • Plant: Lay crop beds and glass panels that grow food and also form your outer wall.
  • Fortify: Add turrets, reinforced panes and traps at weak spots shown by the horde's direction.
  • Harvest: Gather food and materials, assign survivors and decide what to spend and what to save.
  • Withstand: Hold the horde wave, repair the damage and see which beds survived.

One sitting

One sitting is a handful of days: plan and plant, scout the horde's approach, and finish with one wave and repairs. A run can be cut short and picked up with saves between days.

What sets it apart

  • Walls and farms are the same thing, so building for food and building for defense is one choice instead of two separate ones, unlike They Are Billions.
  • Several valid layouts work, which answers the complaint about a single rigid build order.
  • Saves between days remove the cost of experimenting that players of They Are Billions complain about, with optional co-op where hits in the space have multiplayer.

The first playable

A small glass plot with crop beds, a few survivors, one turret type and a single horde wave that approaches from one side. If rearranging beds to hold the wave feels meaningful, build on it.

Scope

  • One map with a grid for glass walls and crop beds
  • One horde type and one turret
  • Food counter and a few survivors
  • One wave and a win or loss screen
  • Several maps with different approach routes
  • Several crops, wall types and turrets
  • Saves between days and difficulty settings
  • A campaign with varied missions

Art

Clean stylized visuals with bright green plants behind pale glass against a dark, ominous horde. The contrast of living green and a gray tide reads well in a capsule.

Risks

  • Players find colony-defense games brutal and punishing when one mistake wipes a run. Show warnings early, offer difficulty options and let players recover from a breach.
  • Campaigns that repeat the same mission with higher numbers disappointed players. Give each map a different goal, layout and horde behavior.
  • Players expect updates and modding support, and feel let down if a game is left behind. Plan a post-launch schedule and add mod support to the roadmap.

Price

$10 to $20: This band had the best share finding an audience, and a focused strategy game fits it.
